Welcome to the Alabama Board of Optometry website
The
Alabama Board of Optometry is statutorily created by the Alabama legislature and delegated with the authority to regulate the optometry profession in the interest of protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public. With necessary oversight by the government, the board
enforces standards and criteria set forth in statute and adds specificity through the promulgation of regulations. An administrative regulatory system provides consumers with an assurance of the qualifications of licensees along with a means of enforcement for the benefit of the public.
This
site offers primary source license verification.
Licensee
data is maintained by the Board's Executive Director.
Responsibly Resuming Routine Eye and Vision Care Expiration of Emergency Order: April 30, 2020 at 5:00 PM.
Continuing education (CE) requirements for the current license renewal period (10/1/2021 through 09/30/2022) have reverted back to the 3-hour online limit. Therapeutic licensed doctors must obtain at least 10 hours in diagnosis and treatment of eye disease CE, and no more than 3 hours in practice management CE. Online CE that is "live" and allows for real-time interaction with the presenter is considered the same as "in-person" (not online) CE.
